performance that took place in the college of Art in Erbil, in Iraqi Kurdistan. The artist slowly walks on a path of fresh black ink and broken glass bottles to re-enact a condition of deep personal distress. By living the pain again Poshya Kakl progressively liberates herself from it until she reaches a complete catharsis and redemption. The last bottle is unbroken as so are her fancies and desires.
Poshya Kakil :False Democracy
In occasion of the celebration of the 100th International Women’s Day Poshya Kakil filmed in her bedroom in Erbil, Kurdistan, the performance False Democracy. The action is a reflection on the disadvantaged condition of women in Kurdish society. With the combined use of her own body, words and images, the artist questions notions of freedom, honour, power and patriarchy.
